Truro City Swimmers Competitive in Gloucester Sprint

Sunday 06th July saw the final ASA Southwest Regional Championship of the swim season being held at the G1 Leisure Centre in Gloucester. This event often referred to by the swimmers as “the Gloucester five sprints” is an old favourite end of season meet which sees many regional qualifying swimmers from across the Southwest Counties competing within their the age groups, battling it out to become the short course sprint champion. The event has swimmers competing in all four strokes over the short course (25 metre pool) 50 metre 'splash and dash' with the additional 100 IM making up the five. Truro City Swimming Club has had numerous success over the years; the 2014 squad of six representing team Truro did not disappoint.

The duo of Sam Norton and Mikey Pond in the 10/11 Years Old Boys Age Group continue to show their excellent potential being more than competitive. Sam hot of his double regional breaststroke success came in 2nd overall, obtaining a first in the breaststroke along the way. Mikey put in another solid performance; a recognised specialist sprinter showing his strength across the four strokes Mikey gained a 3rd in the breaststroke, 2nd in both the freestyle and fly; accumulating enough points for him to achieve a brilliant 5th overall.
The club had Jodie Kotenko representing team Truro in a tough Girls 13 Year Old Age Group, Jodie as always gave her all to finish a very creditable 21st overall. Jack Rogers in the Boys 14 Years Old Age Group again showed how much progress he has made this season clocking up a
1st in the breaststroke and coming in a cracking 5th overall. The club was well represented by Susie Laws in the Girls 16 Year Old Age Group, strong swims across the strokes giving Susie a 9th overall come final placing. In the Boys 17 and Over Age Group the club was delight to see old club stalwart and captain Charlie Middleton back in the pool with a Truro City hat on. Charlie has clearly been keeping swim fit during his university studies and travelling with a 2nd in the backstroke and a 3rd in the IM giving Charlie a podium finish with third overall in his age group.
