After recently returning from the Jersey 2012 Open the previous weekend, Emily Dart and her coaching team were again back on duty at poolside for the popular 2012 Bodmin Open. The coaches somewhat ferry-
The second swim meet of the cornish calendar is made up of the shorter sprint distances 50 and 100 metres, this not only suits many of the younger swimmers this early in the season, but is always a friendly and welcoming to those just embarking on their competitive career. The meet also provides swimmers with an early opportunity to achieve those sought after County Championship qualifying times, required to compete at the county blocks in March.
With all but a couple of the senior swimmers missing having recently competed in Jersey, Truro took a small team consisting of the Junior Squad members to the all day event. For many there were some impressive personal best times set with the top marks going to the boys, Sam Norton 10 Yrs AG with 2 Gold, 3 Silver and James Carpenter 15 Yrs AG with a personal tally of 1 Gold, 3 Silver & 1 Bronze medals.
The girls events were once again keenly fought for as club team mates in the girls 10 Yrs AG, Tanni Smitham and Bethany Vingoe went head to head as they did in the 2011 County blocks. On this occasion like the 2011 County Championship its was County 9 Yrs AG champion Tanni who just came out on top with 2 Gold and 1 Silver, with Bethany snapping in her wake with 2 Gold and 1 Bronze.
All of the swimmers who attended this meet came away with something positive, for many it was a medal as the club won 8 Gold, 17 Silver and 4 Bronze on the day overall. For others it was a new PB helping their confidence to grow and motivating them for the hard training slog ahead through the dark winter months of winter.
These swims will also boost the confidence of those younger swimmers selected for the second round of the National Arena League on the 10th November at Millfield.
WELL DONE TO YOU ALL
