Truro City Swimming Club 3rd in Cornwall & West Devon League 2012 ...
Hosting the final of the Cornwall & West Devon League Championships, Truro City swimming club demonstrated why they remain the premier club in Cornwall with some strong team swimming only to be edged into third at the end. On what seemed to be a rare cornish summers day, even the sun made an appearance which contributed to the relaxed and highly charged final atmosphere.
With the seeded lanes set by the results in rounds 2 & 3 it was reigning champions Kelly College in lane 4 who had everything to lose. This years final also saw 3 local cornish teams match up as they lined up from 1 to 6 in the contesting order of Caradon, Newton Abbott, Dinnaton, Kelly College, Truro City and Carn Brea Helston.
Ranked 4th in the league coming into these finals after the first two rounds of this competition Truro City were motivated to perform as the home team. From the start Kelly dominated the meet with the exception of 2 swimmers, Jodie Kotenko and Josie Williams. In their individual events the girls lead the way with some great swims, Jodie ranking 1st in the 11&Under 50m Freestyle (33.07) & 50m Butterfly (37.95) and girls team captain Josie ranking 1st in the open 100m Butterfly (1:05.86) & 100m Freestyle (1:00.68).
There were many other notable swims made by the team to secure the final 3rd place position and it was great to see the Hollis brothers Luke and George return to form with some superb swims. Overall Truro had 4(1st), 11(2nd), 6(3rd), 14(4th), 9(5th) & 5(6th) place finishes.
The final results confirmed the form of the previous 2 rounds albeit Truro who improved by one place at the expense of Dinnaton. The final positions were:
1. Kelly College 34 pts
2. Newton Abbot 32 pts
3. Truro City 28 pts
4. Dinnaton 27 pts
5. Carn Brea Helston 23 pts
6. Caradon 21 pts
Well done to all swimmers for a great meet!
