Truro City Women's Young Swimming Team Smash The Senior County Record!


At the first weekend of the Cornwall ASA County Championships , the Truro City Swimming Clubs Women's Senior Relay team broke the 4 x 200m freestyle by an astonishing 12 seconds.  Leading the women off were three fourteen year old swimmers, Josie Williams who swam a commanding first leg in 2.08.59; this was backed up by Kay de Courcy's 2.10.33 . This mean't that by the time Nicola Russell dived in to swim a strong third leg of 2.20.81 the team were already over 25 metres ahead of their closet rivals Bodmin. The last leg saw the Truro Girls Captain 15 year old Mesha Wardman close out the record with a 2.22.27. The team whose age is still well below the senior cutoff set the county championship record time of 9.02.15 beating the old record by over twelve seconds.   

The men's senior team placed second in a time of 8.32.73 with the girls under thirteen team getting a third place with 10.26.50.

Distance Individuals
After a short  swim down the County then staged the men's 800m freestyle and the women's 1500m freestyle events. Jack Middleton having spent the last 6 months of the year in Australia on the other side of the globe, with very little training under his belt returned to show why he gained national recognition for his distant swimming by once again dominating the men's senior age group in a time of 9.04.44. James Davis had a very good swim placing himself in second place with a time of 9.14.61. Luc Hesdon gained a 14 year old competition best time of 9.21.66 . Young 11 year old Dominic Goodwin  gained experience swimming this in competition for the first time in a time of 11.10.12 taking the 11 year olds competition best time.

In the women's 1500m Freestyle 14 year old Kay de Courcy took the open and Junior titles  and competition best time in 18.32.04. The previous day  Kay de Courcy took both the open and junior titles in the 800m freestyle in a time of 9.32.81. Natasha Diment came second in 9.36.58, Holly Abrahams silver in 13 year age group in 10.10.41, Courtney -Lee Reid Bronze in 10.19.72.

In the 11 years age group Hannah James silver 12.09.31. Katy Parkinson Bronze 12.35.84, Freya Martin 4th 12.36.27, Roby Edwards 5th 12.51.78. On that same day the men's 1500m freestyle  brought a great result for Luc Hesdon with a time of 18.08..8 and the 14 year old age group gold medal.  In the open title challenge  Jack Middleton won comfortably  in a time of 17.14.1, with James Davis finishing in a time of 18.30.2.
