Truro swimmers excel at Jersey Tigers Open........

Truro City Swimming Club has recently returned from their annual pilgrimage to the Walkers Tigers Open Meet held in Jersey at the Les Quennevais Sports Centre in St Brelade. This fierce and fast combined Level 2 (Regional) and Level 3 (County) meet is held over 3 days and has been an important part of the clubs gala programme for a number of years, testing the swimmers swim fitness early in the swim race calendar but also providing an early opportunity to record both county and regional qualifying times (QT). The squad of 17, many of which where experiencing this meet for the first time, made up from the clubs intermediate and senior squads benefitted greatly and maximised their efforts to place competitive times across the age groups and gender; subsequently the team delivered an impressive 62 medals (19 golds,
21 silver and 22 bronze) 112 personal best times (69% ratio) also achieving 139 County QT and 31 Regional QT along the way.

The exciting finale to the meet is the ‘skins’ sprint open competition. The top 8 swimmers who have amassed the most FINA points across the events over the 3 days qualify to compete in a random 4 round 50m elimination competition across the different strokes. Truro City where delighted to have three swimmers qualify in their respective age groups with county swimmers and champions Charlie Haynes and Nicholas Laws and clubs former Junior Captain Jodie Kotenko making the grade. Charlie and Jodie where very competitive, against tough older more experienced opposition with Nicholas stepping up to the mark securing a second in the final eliminator, a great achievement by all three.

Head Coach Emily Dart was delighted with the squads performance “An amazing weekend, these swimmers conducted themselves admirably both in and out of the pool, their performance against some tough competition exceeded my expectations, with all squad members posting PB’s and coming away with a medal this early in the swim calendar, but most importantly they done themselves and Truro City proud” Focus now turns to the forthcoming final rounds of The Arena National League and clubs annual distance championships, with Bodmin Open and  the clubs development gala for the clubs younger members; the swim calendar starts to gather a pace.
