Truro City Junior's Perform Well at 2012 County Junior Interclub Shield ...

Truro City Swimming Club Junior Members made the annual trip to the Dragon Leisure Centre Bodmin on Sunday 15th January, to compete in the County  Division One, Junior Inter Club Championship…..

As current champions confidence was high; mixed with nerves and much excitement when the much sought after silver hats where distributied, Junior Coach Alan Reid gave a rallying team talk that saw the swimmers get off to a great start.

Drawn in lane 5, not the favoured 3 or 4, the squad swam well against the local 5 county rival clubs. At the half way mark amidst a great and friendly atmosphere, it was business as usual with the Truro juniors lying in 3rd place with only five points separating the top three club’s.

With these thoughts on their mind, the second half of the programme seemed even more chaotic than the first, with races coming thick and fast, and many of the watching parents and spectators, unsure of what position the team they were cheering for was in.

In the end, the final results saw a very strong St Ives team recapture the county title; and congratulationsto them. Penzance just piped Truro for 2nd leaving Truro a close 3rd.

The Truro squad should be proud of their performance and palcing, this is a young team that can achieve some of the glories of previous Truro teams, overall in the place groupings Truro came away with:

1st placings (13), 2nd placings (9) and 3rd placings(9) in both the relays and individual swims.

Division 1 Results (2012)

St Ives - 230
Penzance - 211
Truro - 201
Newquay - 148
-------------------------- Relagated to Division 2 (2012)
St Austell - 109
Launceston - 89

This was a very creditable result for these young swimmers, they should be very proud of their achievement, especially considering that a number of the squad helped by swimming up an age group. Many made the journey and contributed to team Truro even with only a single race and many thanks to those who travelled from much further to participate. Lots of great swims and PB’s, concentration and focus now turn to the forthcoming County blocks.

Full results, times etc are promulgated on the gala board in reception.
