Truro City young gun's take Junior Inter Club County Title...

Truro City Swimming Club Junior Squad Members participated in the annual Junior Inter Club Championship at Penzance Leisure Centre on Saturday 10th January, competing in Division One Truro were drawn against North Cornwall Dragons, Newquay Cormorants, St Ives Bay, Carn Brea Helston and Launceston.

After very competitive performances in previous years, and impressive swims from our youngest swimmers in gaining the Kernow Diddy League title prior to the Christmas break, confidence was high within the team; mixed with nerves and much excitement the much sought after new squad hat's where distributed, a rallying team talk from captains and coaches saw the swimmers get off to a great star.

Drawn in lane 5, not the favoured 3 or 4, the swimmers put in an competent and confident display across the age groups and gender all giving one hundred percent for their friends and squad members. At the half way mark amidst a great and friendly atmosphere, it was clear that team Truro were the one's to catch already posting 14 first, 5 second and 2 third placings from the 24 individual and relay events; with the newest and youngest nine year old squad members in particular catching the eye with some outstanding swims in their first Junior Inter Club.

The second half of the programme seemed even more chaotic than the first, with races coming thick and fast. Truro continued to be highly competitive, consistently posting top three placings and keeping the pressure on the other club's; who themselves put in some great swim's, all doing their part and contributing to a cracking, exciting and friendly swimming meet. The other club's upped their game with North Cornwall Dragons and Newquay in particular challenging Truro hard.

In the end, the final results saw Truro secure victory with an impressive tally of 23 first, 11 second and 6 third placings accumulating 229.5 points, 33.5 points ahead of North Cornwall Dragons in second and Newquay Cormorants in third. New club Junior Captains Sam Norton and Tanni Smitham representing team Truro to receive the CCASA Junior Inter-Club Shield.
