Truro swimmer Charlie Haynes excels at Regional Championships
Truro City Swimming Club's talented male vice-
Entered in three events in the male 15 and under age group category , Day 1 saw Charlie achieve a new personal best time during the heats to storm into the final of the 100 metre freestyle. Later that day a confident and competent heat resulted in Charlie also qualifying for the 50 metre Butterfly final.
As the finals arrived that evening it was a reveved up performance in the first, the 100m Freestyle, in this event Charlie raced hard to finish a very respectable 6th place overall in another new personal best time of 56.54 seconds. Bulding in confiidence from the result of the first final, Chalrlie lined up on the blocks for the 50m Butterfly. Reacting well to the start Charlie powered down the 50m lane, to touch the wall first and become regional champion in a time of 27.14 seconds.
Day 2 saw Charlie continue his excellent form by cruising into the 50 metre freestyle final where a close finish in the final saw him miss out on the medals for a 4th place finish, but knowing he had raced hard to achieve a new personal best time of 25.42, but unfortunately just missing out on a national qualifying time.
Everyone at the club is extremely proud of his achievements this year, Head Coach Emily Dart said ‘Charlie has worked extra hard this season and deserves the rewards from his dedication and commitment he has shown. A wonderful character he is held in high regard by his fellow swimmers, coaches and management and is a vital part of team Truro and its club spirit and ethos".
A student at Redruth School, Charlie; alongside many of his fellow Truro City Junior and Senior Squads members is also part of the successful Portreath Surf Lifesaving Club.
