Truro Swimmer Robyn Edwards takes it to the next level at Bristol
What a weekend for talented Truro swimmer Robyn Edwards, who after a super 2013 County Championships where she was crowned Junior champion in the 100m and 200m backstroke took it to the next level by qualifying for the National Age Group Championships at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.
Robyn took advantage of a new level 1 meet hosted by Bristol swimming club, aimed at those swimmers who had just missed the national qualifying time in their respective County Championships to try and achieve her ambition of a national qualifying time.
The National qualifying times which are now only achievable in a stamina demanding long course 50m pool are very challenging indeed. However they are for most ASA swimming competitors the very pinnacle of achievement and reward for the long and laborious hours of focused training.
Robyn who entered three events over the weekend medalled in both the 100m backstroke where she swam 1.10:60 and 34:07 for two 3rd place finishes. It was swimming strongly in her favourite event finished where a close 2nd place finish in the 200m backstroke event brought a silver medal but more importantly left the 14 year old achieving her goal of a National Age Groups qualifying time in a time of 2.26:61.
Robyn will now not only along with a number of other Truro swimmers get another oportunity to qualify for additional events or improve on the time at the Southwest Regional Championships in May before the main event in July held at Ponds Forge, Sheffield, but join an elite number of other Truro swimmers to achieve this accolade.
Well done Robyn, keep up the hard work.
